bare feet

the sand feels too soft
to be near a jagged cliff.
grass too green
to be on the other side.
running along
chirping cuckoos,
busy as a bee;
be still.
take it all in / take all you can
as they filter
what you see and what you feel.
a clouded heart sees the crowd,
but not the doubt (now?)

take off your shoes,
and test the waters with your
own two feet.

where the rubber meets the soul
soon you’ll know,

just how cruel this world can be.
