we only cry to background piano tracks

today i saw many things die.

today i saw a maid cry for her employer.
today i saw a young man cry goodbye, when his nation (he) cried years ago.
today i saw the noise a culture can create – those outside couldn’t hear.
today i saw the need to bury, many things die when we need them to.
today i saw the sobbings of an old man, a middle-age man, a teenage boy, a multitude of ages in the same ancient tradition.
today i saw the clinging, the grasping, the letting go.
today i saw many things die,

but i only felt one.
