warm winter

i left my footprints in the summer

do you remember
against the crashing waves
my heart relayed
three times it beat
the tidal shore
doors down,
doors down
the hallway long,
longs for inches closer.

outside the window
seasons faded back to back
my own sunlit and tanned
but your eyes are frantic with worry
i should feel sorry
when the view inside is far more satisfying.

the snow is thick
so i’ve kept my steps light

i left my footprints in the summer
