treading water

my heart dwells in murky waters;
my feet paddle persistently –

yet they cannot find the sandbed;
the grains scrape between,
teasing my sanity.

drag me out Lord!

though my back is turned
my face longs to bask in Your sun again.
though far from the shore,
i know even in the ocean i can find hope.

so though i may be kicking and screaming,
i know not what for.

oh God i plead, show me!

show me that there is something in this life my legs can grow weary for.
