name-calling

i had a name,
but was called by many things.

You called me up early on
in the wee (untrained) hours
and i took up the sword,
as my muscles had not yet grown
to feel the weight of its pain.

but when they called me out
my muscles grew,
and i lifted not Your weight –
no it was more,
more than before.

she called me near,
so though my mind was faraway
in a place of pain i stood the rain.
i caught a cold,
and my body grew weaker still.

and i remembered my former weight
and carried my burdens again
where my mind weighed heavier
than that i carried
when they first called me out.

i had a name,
but was called by many things,

so You gave me a new one instead.
