left of the south china sea

you feel further
than the miles that separate

yet you draw near in mind
of the fact.

invading my space
away yet in the way –
i’d rather walk along your side
than have you drag me aside

back to places we strolled
along the waves we rolled
our tongues to conjure up
the words to express,
the words to repress.

yet you stare me down the line;
you don’t seem to mind

that it was 37 degrees,
but i found my winter solace in you,
over iced tea
and hawker centre food.
