79th

i was told she was beautiful,
she moved with grace.
i was told she was intelligent,
her thoughts flowed like the river.
i was told she was caring,
her heart glowed bright.

and yet now as we draw closer to the night,
she is no longer these things.

opposites attract,
death followed you here.
you brought the plague and drowned
us along with your wreck.

damnation seems a fairer flight
then a slow, unwelcome death.
and yet you struggle not to live,
but to remain remembered.

which is a form of living,
but you die all the same.
