our eyes don’t meet,
in the alleyways where
your smile is directed away.
your body slanted towards another
fingers touch, a nervous shudder –
especially when they’re not mine.
the black grime
i know my heart is bitter,
but opposites attract –
i see your back,
the least of all of you;

when beauty turns its back on you,
look in a mirror.
