midnight companion

nightfall brings
out you come, swollen.
pillow to rest, cloth to clean
the dirt from daylight, sunbeat delight.
in this moment my dawn awakes to you,
knowing that the light peeks through your cracks.
a mouth to speak, ears to keep;
the head will rest, then
leave again.

close your eyes, my midnight companion –

we’re both still young.
