I’ve heard a lot of arguments about the LGBT issue. Law of nature, freedom of speech etc. and one thing I’ve realised through my numerous debates is that there comes a point when arguments become a waste of time. I’m a Christian and I don’t support LGBT in any way, and I think I’ve forgotten the first point – I am a Christian. I’m not an anti-LGBT activist, I’m not a debater – I’m not even a conservative. That doesn’t define me. My identity lies in Christ – Ephesians 2:4-6 “But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved—and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus” And it is out of His love that I do everything.
There is a time and place for arguments, a time and place for debates. But it is always time for love. It is not out of bigotry or hatred that I speak forth. It is out of the overflow of my love for God and love for you.
The Bible is very clear with regards to homosexuality; read 1 Tim 1 for one of the verses that speak on the subject matter. I love the Word of God, which is why I obey it. And I love you, which is why I am sharing it with you. It would be selfish of me not to share something so beautiful and true with you.
This post is not to discuss the morality of homosexuality; I think there’s enough of that as it is. My stance is the Bible’s, clear and simple. We as Christians have been arguing about this topic for so long that I think we’ve forgotten why we’re arguing. We must speak out of love. We can only speak out of love. There is no other way we, children of the Most High God, can speak.
For those who have spoken to me before on the topic and have been hurt, I apologise. It is my hope that from here on out, me and my fellow Christians will speak out of love, not hate or convention. It is because I love you that I cannot remain silent. I love my country, and I cannot – will not, stand silent while my nation falls. I will not stay silent as my friends engage in immoral acts.
This is a call to my fellow Christians: speak in love. Speak out of the love that rescued you, the love that saved you, the love that satisfied and will continue to satisfy you. And if you find that your speech or actions be lacking in love and grace, then perhaps it is time to return to God; return to Him and His everlasting Word.
To my LGBT/LGBT-activist friends, I love you. My words may sting, but what I speak I speak only because I love you. The statement “love the sinner but hate the sin” may seem like a cheap excuse for us to speak our mind, but you are not defined by your sexuality. You are not “a gay”, or “a lesbian”, or “that queer kid” – you are you, and I love you. It is because I love you that I long for you to know the truth. It is because I love you that I will continue to speak the truth. And I hope that you will understand and know my purpose in this.
Romans 8:1-4 “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.”
God hates sin. He detests it. It is the bringer of death, and the killer of souls. But He loves us. There is nothing on this earth that can separate you from His love. Romans 8:38 “For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Because He first loved me, I love Him, and I love you. And it is out of this love that I hope to see you standing by my side at the end of days, as we ascend into glory.
