The Girl Who Didn’t Understand

you saw, but didn’t see
you knew,
absentee.
a silent promise, never kept –
no wonder you let it leave.

bleed maybe? you left me lonely,
in darkness, like a bat
more blind than me.
waiting for my daily dose
of last seen ecstasy.

like a high school busy bee,
a farmer at the toil.
you got your crop, but I
wonder, what about

me?

but we forgive, not quite forget;
that takes more time,
more grime –

but I’ll wait for the day,
when I can look across the bench,
and not wait for a tear to fall,
or a girl to walk
across.
