mid-night crisis

in the dark, the soul is
bright;
in darkness we’ll light.
we’ll worry about things youthful,
dreamy, thoughtful.
let adults have their rain over day,
but at night –
we will take back the years,
heart to heart,

all the while,
all the same.

like warm lips on the touch of a lover,
i’ll turn my ears to your voice –
turn my eyes to your tears,
and catch them like a child
chasing a falling star.
as only youth can,

when our hearts have not been stoned,
and bodies gone cold.
we’ll speak in hyperbole,
set free from agony.
the pain in youth, in youth remiss –

we all need a midnight crisis.
